What Is Church Membership?

Church membership is a formal commitment by a believer to a specific local body of Christ. It is a public declaration that one willingly places
themselves under the spiritual care and authority of the church’s leadership, committing to walk in love, service, and accountability with the other
members of the body. While the New Testament does not explicitly use the term “membership,” the concept is clearly present. Believers were
counted among local churches (Acts 2:41, 47), leaders knew who was under their care (Heb. 13:17), and the early church practiced orderly
fellowship, discipline, and ministry together (Acts 6:1–6; 1 Cor. 12:12–27).

At Worldwide Master Builders Ministries, members receive consistent teaching of God’s Word through sound doctrine and practical instruction,
with the goal of equipping every believer for spiritual growth and fruitful living. As part of discipleship, we help members identify the spiritual
gifts God has given them, enabling active involvement in ministry—serving the church and reaching the community according to their unique
calling and purpose. Just as you commit yourself to the church’s life and mission, our pastor and leadership commit to you—praying for you,
equipping you, and walking alongside you in love, truth, and accountability. Membership formalizes what should already be a spiritual reality:
believers joined together in Christ, committed to live and grow as one body following the example of Acts 14—going into cities and public places
to preach the gospel and bringing new believers into fellowship to be exhorted, taught, and built up in faith.

The Exhortation to Mutual Edification

The New Testament teaches that the church is the body of Christ, and God has called every member to devote their life to the growth of the body.
Scripture exhorts believers to edify one another by practicing the “one-anothers” of the New Testament (e.g., Heb. 10:24–25) and exercising their
spiritual gifts (Rom. 12:6–8; 1 Cor. 12:4–7; 1 Pet. 4:10–11). Mutual edification can only take place within the context of a committed local body of
believers. Church membership formalizes that commitment.
It is important for every member to understand that we are engaged in a spiritual battle—not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual
principalities—and though we will face trials and tribulations in this life, God, who lives within us, gives us the grace, peace, patience, and joy to
endure and overcome; therefore, we must be vigilant, know our true enemy, recognize his tactics, and rely on the Holy Spirit’s power to stand firm
and prevail against every attack.

The Support of the Church and the Pastor

The local church is not a business or a spectator event—it is a spiritual family that requires the loving support and participation of every member.
Scripture teaches that believers are to support the church in key ways. First, members are called to give financially to meet practical ministry needs
(2 Cor. 9:6–8; Gal. 6:6; Prov. 3:9–10), including supporting facilities, missions, mercy ministries, and daily operations. Secondly, members are
called to honor and support their leaders, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching: “Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy
of double honor, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching” (1 Tim. 5:17; cf. Gal. 6:6). This “double honor” includes both respect and financial support. Just as the priesthood was sustained by offerings in the Old Testament, pastors and elders today are cared for by the faithful
giving of the church (1 Cor. 9:13–14). The work of ministry is a shared responsibility—and when each member gives cheerfully, serves faithfully,
and encourages consistently, the entire church thrives to God’s glory.
